Former Birmingham City and Portsmouth attacker Erik Huseklepp has likened Manchester City striker Erling Haaland’s determination and hunger to score goals to that of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Erling Haaland At Man city

City, more than a month after announcing that they had reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign the 21-year-old, officially unveiled Haaland as their latest summer signing earlier this week. He has put pen to paper on a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium and is understood to have joined the club for an initial fee of £51million.

Considered as one of the most promising players in the world, City saw off no shortage of competition to land the Leeds-born striker, meaning they will now be determined to see him replicate the same kind of performances as he produced in Germany. He was nothing short of sensational for Dortmund, scoring 86 goals in just 89 appearances.

Haaland arrives in England with plenty of pressure on his shoulders, as he is expected to hit the ground running in the Premier League and become the face of City’s forward line for years to come. And for former Norway international Huseklepp, he has every confidence that Haaland will score goals for the Blues, comparing him with Manchester United ace Ronaldo.

“I have followed Erling’s career with great interest and watched him a lot over the past couple of years,” said Huseklepp, as quoted by City’s club website.

“I think he will do exceptionally well in this Manchester City team because he is coming into a side filled with quality players who are fantastic at creating opportunities – and if he is at the end of those passes, he is going to score a lot of goals.

“They are very different players, but they have the same sort of thirst and desire to score goals. With the sort of players he will have around him at City, I will be really surprised if he doesn’t score a lot of goals.”
