Brazil’s native was playing for another EPL team Liverpool from 2013 to 2018 and these were the years when he was showing astounding football.

Many fans and experts believed that he had the potential to be a world-class player and maybe even a Ballon d’Or candidate in the future. But in 2018 he left Liverpool and went to Barcelona.

This was the start of his downfall.
In January of 2022 Aston Villa, a club which is managed by Liverpool’s legend and Philippe’s former teammate Steven Gerrard agreed to sign Coutinho on loan from Barcelona with the option to permanently obtain the former Liverpool player.

The 29-year-old Brazilian first arrived in England back in 2013.

Liverpool signed him from Inter. Coutinho adapted really quickly and became an important player for the Reds under Brendan Rodgers.

Even though Liverpool didn’t win any important titles in those years, Coutinho played incredible football on an individual level.

In total, Coutinho played for Reds 201 times, scored 54 goals, and was a good source of assists for his teammates.

This kind of performance was enough argument for Barcelona to sign him up and in 2018 198(dollar) million transfer materialized.

But it wasn’t meant for Coutinho to shine at Barcelona. The Brazilian struggled to maintain high playing standards alongside Messi and other stars at Camp Nou.

Injuries were also an additional reason why his performance degraded.

Because of this, Barcelona was finally ready to get rid of Coutinho.

In 2019 german giant club Bayern Munich signed the Brazilian on loan from Barcelona. In Germany Coutinho started to show high playing standards once again.

It seemed that this was Phillipe’s career resurgence.

Overall, he performed way better in Bayern, scoring 11 goals in 38 games and having some assists. Plus, he managed to win the most prestigious European club title – champions league.

In 2020 he returned to Barcelona, received another injury, and couldn’t play the remainder of the season.

Coutinho planned to establish himself as one of the best players in the world when he left Liverpool and joined Barcelona.

But now he is trying to rebuild his career returning to England again.

Generally, when a player goes from Barcelona to low-level teams, it is hardly considered a step forward. But in Coutinho’s case, this might be the right choice.

Aston Villa’s new manager Steven Gerrard played with Coutinho for two and a half seasons at Liverpool, so it’s very much likely that Steven Gerrard personally wanted to sign Coutinho in his new team.

The Brazilian is the third most expensive player in football history. The other two players who surpass him on this list are Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappe.

Coutinho was 25 years old when he signed a contract with Barcelona.

Barcelona fans considered him as the new Andres Iniesta, a player to both excite fans and help the club to win major trophies.

The Brazilian won some trophies with Barcelona: two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies and the Spanish Super Cup. But on the individual level, he didn’t show high standard football and wasn’t the reason why his team won the titles.

Philippe, Barcelona’s biggest ever signing and maybe regret as well, had 126 appearances for the team to only score 26 goals in all competitions.

In last season Barcelona was mostly focused on youngsters like Nico, Gavi, and Yusuf Demir. Coutinho’s playing time was reduced and he was appearing occasionally.

This degradation had a huge impact on his role in Brazil’s national team as well. Philippe’s last appearance in Brazil’s national team jersey was in October 2020. Somewhat surprisingly, he was called up to the squad of November’s world cup qualifiers, but still, other talented Brazilian players, like Rafinha, Vinicius junior, Lucas Paqueta are still ahead of him on the squad list.

Aston Villa with Steven Gerrard plans to rediscover the magic and the talent of Coutinho which was seen in Liverpool. Brazilians talent is extensive.

He has great ability to carry the ball, Vision of the pitch to produce great passes, accuracy, and the power to score stunning long-range goals. This might seriously help Gerrard to Improve his team and Coutinho might fill up the loss that Aston Villa had after their Leader Jack Grealish signed to Man city in the summer of 2021.

Before signing to Aston Villa, Coutinho has been linked with other Premier League teams as well. Liverpool’s name was mentioned as well. But the Merseyside team has the tendency not to allow players to return after they leave the club.

Many fans were unhappy that Coutinho went with the other club, but it’s still unclear what was the reason for this decision.
It’s also worth mentioning that Liverpool’s side vastly improved after Coutinho left. A huge amount of money that Reds received was spent very precisely.

The club signed Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker, the two players who played an important role for Liverpool to become European and premier league champions.

Signing with Aston Villa might be the career change decision for Coutinho in a good sense, but it’s up to him and Steven Gerrard to rediscover the lost talent of the Brazilian. However, so far it seems like Coutinho has found his footing after once again playing for a Premier League side.

His consistency and form is still unclear, but many Liverpool and Aston Villa fans remain hopeful that he can regain his confidence and deliver results.
